PORTLAND
— Cumberland County Commissioners are accepting applications for a new board that will review property tax abatement appeals.

The Board of Assessment Review will be responsible for hearing and ruling on abatement appeals made to the county by residents of towns that do not have their own review boards.

Commissioners currently hear the appeals.

The board will be made up of five to seven members, with terms lasting three to five years. At least one of the members must be a licensed real estate appraiser. The commission is encouraging applicants with professional real estate knowledge, as well as members of the general public, to apply.

Letters or e-mails of interest along with qualifications should be sent to Elizabeth Trice via e-mail, trice@cumberlandcounty.org, or mail to Cumberland County Government/BAR, 142 Federal St., Portland, ME 04101. The deadline is Nov. 20.
