FALMOUTH — Town Councilor and local real estate developer Fred Chase is recovering well at his home after having six-way heart bypass surgery last week.

“He’s doing remarkably well,” said his son, Dave Chase, on Tuesday.

Dave Chase said his father was suffering from shortness of breath and went to his doctor to have it checked out.

“He didn’t have a heart attack or anything,” he said.

Fred Chase, who turns 74 years old this week, has been a fixture in town government in Falmouth over the years, serving on the Town Council multiple times, including his most recent election in 2009.

Fellow Councilor Tony Payne said he thought it would take more than surgery to keep Chase from serving on the council.

“Oh, I think you’ll have a quotable source for years to come,” Payne said.
