South Portland police make arrest in 2009 robbery
Jan 07, 2011 12:00 am
SOUTH PORTLAND — Police said they have made an arrest in what was the only unsolved bank robbery in the city in recent years.
Sgt. Steven Webster said police arrested Michael LaFollette, 29, of Portland, in connection with the Nov. 9, 2009, bank robbery.
Police said LaFollette allegedly entered Gorham Savings bank on Gorham Road and passed the teller a note demanding cash. He reportedly fled on foot with "a small amount" of cash.
No weapons were displayed and nobody was hurt, police said.
Webster said new information prompted police to interview LaFollette, who was subsequently charged with robbery and theft.
As of Wednesday, he was being held on $1,000 cash bail at Cumberland County Jail.
