Attwood again dominates at ski states

Cape Elizabeth senior Emily Attwood has dazzled athletically throughout her high school years and brought the curtain down on her skiing career last week at the Class B state championships.

Attwood won the freestyle and classic races and helped the Capers girls' team to a fourth-place Nordic finish. The boys wound up fifth.

Attwood captured the freestyle 16 minutes, 6.9 seconds. She also won the classic in 18:31.6.

Cape Elizabeth's girls also got freestyle points from Lexi Weatherbie (17th, 19:24.8), Francesca Governali (23rd, 19:48.1) and Skyler Dunfey (29th, 20:21.3).

In the classic, Dunfey moved up to 11th (21:52.3), Weatherbie was 17th (22:24.7) and Governali was 34th (24:50.7).

In the boys' Nordic competition, in the freestyle, Bobby Yokabaskas placed seventh (15:07.1). James Yokabaskas (13th, 15:36.8), John Menz (36th, 17:18.5) and Matt Barksdale (39th, 17:39) were the other scorers.

In the classic, Bobby Yokabaskas moved up to the second spot (16:12.8). James Yokabaskas was 17th, 17:43.5), Menz 25th (18:37.8) and Barksdale 38th (20:20.7).

On the Alpine side, Cape Elizabeth's boys' squad was fourth.

In the giant slalom, Jack Barber placed ninth (a two-run combined time of 1:26.35). Sam Kozlowski (15th, 1:29.90), Sam Barber (41st, 1:56.04) and Jon Rice (46th, 2:10.89) were the other scorers.

In the slalom, Sam Barber moved up to eighth (1:23.35). Jack Barber placed 15th (1:29.08). Derek Roberts finished 24th (1:38.28) and Rice came in 32nd (1:55.21).

When the Alpine and Nordic scores were combined, the Capers boys wound up fifth in Class B. Falmouth edged Yarmouth for the title.

The Cape Elizabeth girls didn't score as a team on the Alpine side or combined. Some individuals did compete downhill. In the GS, Molly Ham came in 35th (1:50.09), Piper Otterbein was 43rd (1:58.66) and Deedee Curran placed 47th (2:07.90).

In the slalom, Curran was 38th (2:08.09) and Otterbein placed 42nd (2:18.03).

In Class A, Scarborough didn't score as team, but Taylor Bernier was 20th in the boys' giant slalom (1:45.87) and Shelby Bernier came in 56th in the girls' GS (2:01.62).
