South Portland High School rennovation plan to be unveiled

SOUTH PORTLAND — Residents will get a chance Tuesday, May 31, to see the most recent mock-up of South Portland High School's post-rennovation design.

Members of the high school building committee will unveil a virtual 3D model of the the rennovated school at an event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the lower cafeteria at the high school.

"The design of the building is closer and closer to being finalized," said committee member Justine Carlisle. "But some of the specifics regarding green design are still being evaluated."

Carlisle said the new school will feature state-of-the-art technology infrastructure and will be certified by the U.S. Green Building council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2012, Carlisle said.

"We are excited to unveil [the model] to the public and receive input before the final design is submitted," wrote Superintendent Suzanne Godin in a statement.

Godin, Mayor Rosemarie De Angelis and many other city officials plan to attend the event.

The committee has asked residents to bring South Portland High School memorabilia to the event Tuesday. The items will be catalogued and stored in a collection to honor the school.
