Golf tourney raises funds for Haiti projects
SCARBOROUGH — A group of Maine businesses supporting rebuilding efforts in Haiti have chosen the projects they will fund.
The MaineLine coalition will fund construction of 10 schools and community centers in areas worst hit by the January 2010 earthquake.
The first school will be built in Cabaret, a small community approximately an hour north of Port-au-Prince. The organization estimates it will take approximately nine months to a year to complete construction of all 10 schools and community centers.
Each project will cost approximately $50,000, according to a press release. The Cabaret school will accommodate 300 students in grades one through six.
MaineLine is holding a golf tournament Monday, Sept. 13, at the Nonesuch River Golf Club to raise money for the projects. The tournament costs $125 for an individual and $500 for a foursome. Visit maineline.org or call 774-7528 for more information or to register.
