William G. Rodimon, 89: Active in Higgins Beach community
PORTLAND — William Gibbons Rodimon, 89, died Jan. 17 at Maine Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
Born on Feb. 26, 1920, in Northampton, Mass., son of Walter S. Rodimon and Gladys Gibbons Rodimon, he attended local schools.
During World War II he enlisted in the Navy, serving in the South Pacific as a pharmacist first class.
After being honorably discharged, he graduated from American International College in Springfield, Mass., with a degree in economics.
He married Patricia K. Welch on Aug. 9, 1949, and had one daughter, Melissa.
After retiring from the Westfield Post Office, he and his wife moved to Higgins Beach in 1986, where they had spent many summers.
He enjoyed fishing off the rocks at the beach, and would often be seen feeding the seagulls and delivering newspapers to his friends’ front steps. Active in the community, he was a member of the Higgins Beach Association, and would ride his bicycle and walk to the beach four times a day.
He was predeceased by his three brothers, Clark, Warner and Frederick and his sister Elizabeth.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Patricia; daughter Melissa and her husband Lawrence Whelen of Onset, Mass.; two sisters, Martha Makula, and Charlotte King and friend Jack Carpenter; nephew Richard King, his wife Judy and daughter Sarah; and two nieces, Christine Makula and Elizabeth and Roger Richardson and their daughter Elizabeth.
Private services will be held in Northampton, Mass. this summer.
