Lucy Y. Goggin, 93: Avid reader who enjoyed cooking
SCARBOROUGH — Lucy York Goggin, 93, died May 13 at Pine Point Nursing Home after several years of declining health.
Born in Wilton, the daughter of Maurice and Josephine (Brown) York, she attended local schools and graduated from Farmington Normal School in 1937.
She later graduated from Gorham State Teacher's College and taught school in Wilton, East Dixfield, Westbrook, and Muskegon, Mich.
Family and friends will remember her great cooking, warm welcome and sense of humor.
She was a member of the Westbrook Women’s Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and many other organizations.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Pine Point Center for their excellent care.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Goggin.
Survivors are Lucy Cushman and family of Stratham, N.H., Nancy Hutton of Saco, Joyce Hutton of Williamsburg, Va., Susan Bendroth and family of Exeter, N.H., John Hutton and wife of Lee, N.H., Anne Agan of North Ferrisburg, Vt., Patricia Robles and family of Freeport, Pamela Robinson and family of Oxford, Ohio, Paul Goggin and family of Columbus, Ohio, Penny Forker and family of Columbus ,Ohio, Lloyd and June Goggin of Oxford, Ohio, and Jan York of Orrs Island; many cousins and extended family in Maine and Ohio.
A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 20 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Randolph.
Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
