Greater Portland Landmarks
buys historic property

PORTLAND - Historic preservation organization, Greater Portland Landmarks, has acquired the historic Safford House, located at 93 High St. in Portland.

The building was purchased for more than $1 million, and was made possible by Landmarks' first-ever capital campaign, which is still underway.

The Safford House will become Landmarks new home and will be known as the Center for Architecture and Preservation.

After some initial renovation work is completed, Landmarks will move its office from 165 State St. to the first floor of the Safford House in September. The nonprofit plans to lease the upper two floors until anticipated growth and expansion can occur.

Residence Inn by Marriott
opens with new management

PORTLAND, ME - The Residence Inn by Marriott has recently opened its 179-suite facility at 145 Fore St. in downtown Portland.

The hotel's newly appointed management team includes Judy Judkins of Falmouth, who will serve as general manager, and Karen Fendler of Brunswick was named the director of sales.

Other management team members include Jamie Lane of Portland, assistant general manager; Robert Balling of Portland, director of engineering; Dereck Patterson of Portland, sales manager; and Louise Shaw of Standish, director of housekeeping.

The new hotel, which also offers 1,300 square feet of meeting space, a cocktail lounge and ground-floor retail space, is owned and operated by Norwich Partners, LLC, of Lebanon, N.H.

New Hires, Promotions

Eric Blom of Portland has recently joined Broadreach Public Relations, a Yarmouth-based public relations firm, as vice president of public relations. Blom, a veteran journalist formerly with the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, will work with clients to develop strategic public relations initiatives and serve in a leadership position in the daily operation of the firm. 

Kennebunk and Portland-based Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty has hired Ginny Whitney as a senior vice president at its Kennebunk office. She joins the executive team with nearly 25 years experience in York County real estate and will specialize in properties in York, Ogunquit, Eliot and Kittery.

John Marble of Portland has joined the administration team at the Friends School of Portland as the director of business and development. 

Erin Haber of Cape Elizabeth has joined Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Cape Elizabeth as a licensed associate broker.

Courtney Homan of Portland, an associate in Bernstein Shur's real estate practice group, was recently sworn into the Maine State Bar Association, and will practice in all areas of commercial real estate and general corporate matters.

Berry Dunn McNeil & Parker, CPAs and Management Consultants in Portland, has hired Todd J. Desjardins of New Gloucester to join its financial services group and has promoted senior manager Barbara J. McGuan to principal in the firm.

Lisa C. Saulter of Falmouth has joined the sales team at Winxnet IT consulting services and will focus on new business development in New England.  

Allied/Cook Construction, a Scarborough-based commercial construction management firm, has hired Ben Levesque as a superintendent, Sam Swan as estimating and preconstruction manager, and Erin Ball as executive administrative assistant.

Amanda Piper of South Portland has joined FISC Solutions, a Maine based outsourcing service provider, as director of loan operations. 

Powers Real Estate has hired Heidi Hall of Yarmouth as an associate broker and Craig Reynolds of Yarmouth as a broker. 

Bob Pappagianopoulos has joined Maine Medical Center as director of computer technology. 

New Ventures

The Art Loft Gallery has opened on the second floor at 8 School St. in Freeport and is managed by Karen Pettengill. The gallery features paintings, photography, fiber, textile, metal, wood, glass and mixed media by Maine artisans.

Edward Jones financial service provider, Troy Malbon, recently celebrated the grand re-opening of his Yarmouth office located at 305 U.S. Route 1 with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Amedisys Home Health Care has opened a new agency located at 931 Congress St., Portland. The agency will be operated by Donna Bolstridge and will offer physician-ordered home care services, including skilled nursing, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, medical social work and home health aides.

Addison Woolley Gallery has re-opened with a new name in a new space. Now called Addison Woolley at Studio 203A, the gallery opened with a group photography exhibit in the Bakery Building at 61 Pleasant St. in the Old Port, under the continued direction of gallery director Susan Porter.
