Foundation seeks online votes for $10K grant

PORTLAND — An award-winning after-school program for low-income and under-served middle school students in Cumberland, York and Sagadahoc counties is one of 50 finalists for a $10,000 grant.

The grant winner will be chosen through an online poll on Facebook, which will accept votes through Jan. 17. The winner will also be the subject of a feature article in People magazine.

The Riverview Foundation's Access for Inspiration and Motivation program partners students with adult mentors. AIM's offerings include non-competitive, peaceful martial arts; cultural enrichment activities; homework assistance; healthy snacks; educational field trips and a year-end wilderness trip. The program can serve up to 100 kids a year.

The $10,000 grant is being offered by the Clorox Clean-up "Power a Bright Future" program, and may be used to purchase materials for educational and arts programs, student field trips and community service resources. It may also fund a staff position that was recently cut.

The 50 finalists were chosen from a pool of 5,000 applicants.

Follow the AIM link to Facebook at RiverviewFoundation.org to vote. One vote a day is permitted.
