Cross country regionals, states postponed

Due to Saturday's bad weather, the Maine Principals' Association pushed
the cross country regional championships back a week to this coming
Saturday, meaning the state championship meet will now be held
Saturday, Nov. 7. Both meets will be contested at Twin Brook in
Cumberland. Saturday's regional meet begins at 10 a.m. with the Western
Class A (Cheverus, Deering, McAuley, Portland) girls. The Class A boys
run at 10:45 p.m. Waynflete's girls run in the Western C race, which
starts at 12:20 p.m. The Class C boys run at 12:55 p.m.

Waynflete seeks Nordic ski coach

Waynflete School is seeking a middle school cross country ski coach
for the winter season. Practices begin Nov. 2. FMI, Ross Burdick at

Kathadin field hockey club holding tryouts

The Katahdin Premier field hockey club is holding tryouts for its U-14,
U-16 and U-19 teams Sunday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Portland

MPS Portland Phoenix events upcoming

The MPS Portland Phoenix soccer program will host a Soccerween Jamobree
for U-9 through U-12 Friday and Super Y tryouts Nov. 15. FMI, 878-5780

MPIL offering girls' lacrosse skills session

Maine Premier Indoor Lacrosse is holding an indoor season on Tuesdays
and is adding a skills session with USM head women's coach Lauren Reid.
The session begins Nov. 3. The cost is $205 for nine weeks of play.

SMCC wraps up fall season

Southern Maine Community College has finished its fall sports season.
The baseball team went 10-6 and reached the Yankee Small College
Conference championship game before falling to New Hampshire Technical
Institute. Josh Mackie (of South Portland) led the team with a .417
batting average. Dan Walker (of Falmouth) went 4-1 to pace the pitching
staff. Softball wound up 7-4 after losing 5-0 to the University of New
Hampshire's club team in the YSCC Final. Windham's Darcey Webster hit
.606 to lead the team. Men's soccer finished 6-7-1 after losing 3-0 to
NHTI in the YSCC championship game. Alex Jenkins led the team with six
goals and three assists. Goalie Matt Richio made 109 saves and had a
goals-against-average of 1.89. The women wound up 4-6-1 and lost to
NHTI on penalty kicks in the YSCC playoffs. Morgan Crespo had 11 goals
and one assist this fall. Taylor Graves added seven goals and four
assists. Goalkeeper Kellie Melancon made 65 saves.

NBA/WNBA FIT Challenge upcoming

Portland Recreation is hosting a local competition of NBA/WNBA FIT
Challenge Nov. 7 at the Riverton Community Center. This is a free
competition for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 to challenge their level of

Maine Elite Lacrosse clinics upcoming

Maine Elite Lacrosse is offering clinics Sunday and Tuesday nights
beginning next month. A weekly clinic with short-sided scrimmages for
boys in grades 2-8 will begin Nov. 1 and run Sunday nights through Dec.
20 from 5 to 6 p.m. at YourSpace, 215 Narragansett St., in Gorham.
Cheverus varsity boys' lacrosse coach Deke Andrew will run the program.
The price is $150. There will also be an elite 4v4 winter session for
advanced Elite level middle schoolers Tuesday nights Nov. 3 through
Dec. 22 from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Portland Sports Complex behind Jokers.

Portland Pirates hosting Breast Cancer Awareness Night

The Portland Pirates will host their second annual Breast Cancer
Awareness Night when they meet the Lowell Devils Friday at 7 p.m. Fans
are encouraged to wear pink to the rink and join the Pirates in
supporting those affected by breast cancer. Main Deck Discount Tickets

Sea Dogs pitcher offering clinic

Portland Sea Dogs pitcher Ryne Lawson will present a pitching clinic
Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Falmouth Middle School gym. The 8-12 year old
session goes from 6 to 7 p.m. A 13-18 year old clinic runs from 7:15 to

Casco Bay Sports is offering several co-ed sports leagues beginning
next month. Sunday Evening Basketball starts Nov. 1. Monday Night

Evening Indoor Soccer commences Nov. 22, as does Sunday Morning Floor
