Portland kickball team eliminated by eventual champs
PORTLAND — The top-seeded Portland All Stars Only kickball team was booted from the 72-team World Adult Kickball Association Founder's Cup tournament in Las Vegas last weekend before the quarterfinal round.
The All Stars Only team rolled through early games, with victories of 12-0 and 11-0, respectively, over teams from New Mexico, ranked 72nd, and Massachusetts, ranked 37th. Their third pool-play game was a little more difficult, a 2-0 win over 36th-ranked Little Lebowski Urban Achievers of Utah.
The All Stars Only won their first single-elimination game, 1-0, against Team Mandrake X of New Mexico, ranked 40th.
In the second round of elimination play, however, the All Stars Only saw their 46-game unbeaten streak come to close with a 3-2 loss to the 52nd-ranked Frosty Balls, a dark-horse team from Virginia that eventually won the tournament.
