Fireworks explode during the 4th of July celebration in Portland.
A small fireworks trailer erupted into flames shortly before the grand finale of the Independence Day fireworks show on the Eastern Prom in Portland Sunday evening, sending stray fireworks exploding into the night sky. Fire crews responded a little after 10 p.m. Chief Fred LaMontagne said they let the fire burn out because there was no imminent danger, and it was unclear if unexploded fireworks were in the trailer. No one was injured. LaMontagne said the fire started when a fireworks shell broke close to the trailer and either ignited or damaged a nearby cannister full of unexploded fireworks.
