Council denies Slainte license

PORTLAND – A Preble Street bar that police say served minors multiple times was denied renewal of its liquor license by the City Council Monday night.

Slainte, at 24 Preble St. across from the former Public Market building, is owned by Ian Farnsworth. The Police Department recommended denial of the license because the bar allegedly served underage patrons on four occasions.

Farnsworth said that he and another bartender have since undergone the Serv Safe Alcohol training course. He also wrote in a letter to the council that his business has been able to do well despite being in a depressed part of town.

The council voted 7-2 to deny the license, with Councilors Dan Skolnik and Nick Mavodones in the minority.
