Falmouth hosting school spirit bonfire

There will be a school spirit bonfire at Falmouth High after the varsity football game Friday night. Students and parents are welcome to attend. All Falmouth High fall teams will be honored at the event.

Greely seeks winter coaches

Greely High School has openings for a girls' junior varsity ice hockey and a winter cheering coach. FMI, msad51.org.

Freeport coaching openings

Freeport High School has coaching openings for boys' junior varsity basketball, boys' junior varsity lacrosse and JV baseball and softball. There are also openings for a boys' basketball and a 7th grade girls' lacrosse coach at Freeport Middle school. FMI, craig_sickels@coconetme.org.

BIW hockey team facing Montreal Canadiens alumni

The Bath Iron Works hockey team, IRONCLAD, will play the Montreal Canadiens alumni 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland in a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. Confirmed Canadiens players include Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson and Steve Shutt. Tickets are $15. FMI, 650-5050.

Sailing regatta/fundraiser upcoming

SailMaine is hosting its second annual Leafer's Last Leg regatta/SailMaine Soiree silent auction fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 17. Dozens of local high school sailors and seasoned sailing veterans will square off on courses outside Portland Harbor. Two Falmouth graduates to be honored by Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honor

Falmouth High graduates Sara Bachman and Thomas Winger will receive $500 scholarships at the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honor induction ceremony Sunday in Waterville. Bachman had a grade point average of 98.353, was her class president and received several academic awards. She also played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Winger had a GPA of 96.229, was a Western Maine Conference Citizenship Award winner and was a soccer and track standout. The ceremony begins at 12 p.m. at the Alfond Youth Center. Tickets are $35. Former New England Patriots coming to Portland for flag football game

Former New England Patriots standouts Ronnie Lippett and Roland James will compete with the New England Patriots Alumni Flag Football team and take part in a game against the Cumberland County Sheriff's P.A.L. and ECMG Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Deering High's Memorial Stadium. Proceeds from the game will benefit various youth athletic programs supported by the Cumberland County Sheriff's P.A.L. A donation of $10 is suggested. FMI, alex@ecmgevents.com.
