Former NYA hockey player up for prestigious award
Former North Yarmouth Academy student and boys' hockey player Dan Bartlett (Class of 2004 and The Forecaster's NYA Winter Male Athlete of the Year in 2004), now a senior forward at Princeton University, has been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, the highest honor and most prestigious award in Division I college hockey. Bartlett, a molecular biology major, is a three-time ECAC Division I All-American and received the All-Ivy Academic Award in 2009. Yarmouth seeking coaches
Yarmouth High School is seeking an assistant girls' lacrosse and a junior varsity softball coach for the spring season. Aditionally, there are openings for junior varsity field hockey, assistant varsity football, girls' varsity basketball and boys' junior varsity basketball. Bowdoin hosting Girls and Women in Sports Day
Bowdoin College is hosting Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 14 at the Farley Field House. The event, featuring free sports clinics taught by varsity women student-athletes from several sports, is free and open to girls in grades K-12. Grades K-3 go from 12 to 2 p.m. Grades 4-12 go from 2 to 4 p.m. FMI, bowdoin.edu/athletics.
Cumberland/North Yarmouth Lacrosse Registration underway

Three local gymnasts enjoy top 10 finishes
Three local gymnasts finished in the top 10 at the recent Team Challenge 2010 meet in Danbury, Conn. North Yarmouth's Zoe Lambert was second in the bars, tied for second on the vault, was ninth on the beam and fourth all-around in Level 5 competition. Yarmout's Anna Baker tied for fifth in the beam and was sixth on the floor in Level 5. Falmouth's Sarah Caldwell tied for sixth in the vault in Level 7.
Falmouth girl wins sportsmanship award
Falmouth’s Meghan Kelley was recently lauded by the United States Tennis Association New England for her sportsmanship. Kelley has been selected as USTA New England’s winner of the 2009 girls’ 12-and-under sportsmanship award, presented to a player who exemplified sportsmanship qualities on and off the court in 2009. She will be honored at USTA New England’s annual award ceremony, which takes place next month in Marlboro, Mass.
