Cumberland's Sam Burrell, a former Greely High lacrosse standout now at Springfield College, was chosen as an Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Magazine preseason All-American honorable mention. Burrell anchors the Pride's defense. Burrell was a 2008 All-Pilgrim League first-team selection.
SUBHEAD-Maine Elite Lacrosse hosting second session
Maine Elite Lacrosse is announcing a second session of girls' and boys' lacrosse, featuring a mix of instruction and game play for grades 2 through 8. The session will be held at YourSpace Sports and Recreation Complex in Gorham. Instruction will be held Sundays beginning Jan. 18 through March 22. Boys and girls in grades 2 through 5 go from 10 to 11 a.m. Boys and girls in grades 6 through 8 go from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Cost is $200 for the full session or $100 for half.
SUBHEAD--Maine Premier Lacrosse openings
Maine Premier Lacrosse has limited space remaining in all divisions including boys' youth 3, 4 and 5, boys' and girls' middle school and high school. Women's adult lacrosse is also new.
SUBHEAD-YourSpace hosting pickup lacrosse
YourSpace, formerly Gorham Sports Center in Gorham, is hosting middle and high school pickup lacrosse on Wednesday afternoons. Girls play from 4 to 5 p.m. Boys go from 5 to 6 p.m. Cost is $10 per hour. A five-week league will begin Feb. 25.

SUBHEAD--Falmouth girls wins Hoop Shoot
Falmouth's Allie Clement won the 12 and 13 year old division at Saturday's Elks Hoop Shoot foul shooting contest at McAuley High School. Clement advances to the district contest to be held Jan. 18 at the Brunswick Recreation Center.
SUBHEAD--Stripers set records
The Casco Bay YMCA Stripers swim team set several records during recent meets with the Pine Tree Swim Club of Portland and the Titans of Sanford. Amelia Deady set new marks in the girls' 13-14 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Evan Coleman bested the old record in the boys' 13-14 100 freestyle. Emelia Von Satlza has the new record in the girls' 12-and-under 200 backstroke and 50 free. Abby Belisle-Haley (girls' 12-and-under 100 fly) and Zach Rolland (boys' 11-12 200 breaststroke) also set new marks. Adam Brobst, Travis Libsack, Luca Seid and Evan Coleman combined to set a new record in the boys' 13-14 400 freestyle relay.
