Anna L. Shorey, 82: Longtime Cumberland school bus driver

CUMBERLAND — Anna Louise (Whittier) Shorey, 82, died Dec. 20 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Born in Bangor on Feb. 2, 1928, she was a daughter of Ethel (Chipman) and Levens H. Whittier, and graduated from Bangor High School in 1946.

On Dec. 21, 1947, she married Walter G. Shorey Jr., of Veazie, and they had three sons together.

She spent the first 20 years of her marriage traveling with Walter while he served with the U.S. Marines, U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force.

In 1967 they settled in Cumberland, where she lived until her death.

For 23 years she drove a school bus for the Cumberland School District and thoroughly enjoyed working with children.

She led a very full life, enjoying family and friends, sewing, knitting, quilting and crafts.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Tuttle Road United Methodist Church.

Her husband Water predeceased her in 2000.

Survivors include her three sons, Walter G. Shorey III, and his wife Ellen of North Yarmouth, Joel W. Shorey of Westbrook, and Jeffrey D. Shorey and his wife Hazel of North Yarmouth; five grandchildren, Mindy, Amy, Elizabeth, Mathew and Jason; four great-grandchildren, Chad, Kyle, Kostya and Tatiana; two sisters, Marcia Whittier and Mary Freeman, both of Bangor, and a brother, Robert Whittier and his wife Phyllis of Dover-Foxcroft; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held last week.
