Arthur R. Oliver, 67: Known for quick wit, great sense of humor
YARMOUTH — Arthur R. "Daddy O." Oliver died Aug. 16 at his home surrounded by family.
On July 5, 1942, he was born in Portland, the second son of Keith N. and Zodelle L. (Cram) Oliver.
He grew up in Yarmouth and attended Yarmouth schools.
On Oct. 9, 1978, he married Charice L. Frank.
A gentle man with a soft voice and great smile, he was dearly loved by family and friends who enjoyed his quick wit and great sense of humor. He especially loved playing cribbage with visitors and spending time with his family.
Most of his friends knew him as "Daddy O.," a nickname that was inspired by his combined family of nine children.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 31 years, Charice L. Oliver; his children, Keith A. Oliver and his wife Bethany of Brunswick, Michael D. Soule of Freeport, Todd A. Oliver and his wife Tanya of Topsham, Derah S. Soule and his wife Nancy of Bowdoinham, David J. Soule and his wife Carlene of Freeport, Scott A. Oliver of Lewiston, Mary S. Howard and her husband Michael of Freeport, Deborah L. Malone of Pownal, and Eryn M. Steele of Auburn; 14 grandchildren, Victoria, William, Jessica, Jami, Jason, Emily, Desiree, Christopher, Brandon, Christopher, Courtney, Cameron, Cody, and Jarred; a sister, Sharon L. Oliver and her companion John Gurney of Freeport; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29 at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth.
