Gerald J. DeRoche, 88

SCARBOROUGH — Gerald J. DeRoche, 88, of Yarmouth, died Oct. 2 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.

On Sept. 14, 1921, he was born in Tignish, PEI, Canada, the eighth child of 15 born to Margaret (Gould) and Laurence E. DeRoche.

The family moved to Yarmouth when he was two years old and he lived the rest of his life in Yarmouth.

In 1941, he graduated from North Yarmouth Academy.

He was a Merchant Marine for two years before he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Japan during World War II.

After he returned from the service, he worked for S.D. Warren in Westbrook for 36 years until he retired in 1983.

He married Lucy Williams DeRoche in 1975 and they enjoyed traveling and exploring together.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lucy of Yarmouth; three children, Gary of Sebring, Fla., Debra Marshall and husband Ric of Standish and Tammy DeRoche and her husband James Ryan of Sammamish, Wash.; three grandchildren, Tara Russell and her companion Ked Plummer, Mia Ryan and Justin Alt; his sister, Helen Roberge of Yarmouth and two brothers, F. Dean DeRoche and wife Judy of Scarborough, Arthur DeRoche and his wife Frances of Vermont; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
