Paul M. Bennett, 75
POWNAL — Paul Maynard Bennett, of Delray Beach, Fla., died Feb. 17 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Freeport on April 30, 1935, he was the son of William Edward Bennett and Georgia Anna Reed Bennett.
In 1953 he graduated from Freeport High School, where he met his wife of 55 years, Shirley Mae Slocum.
For 25 years he worked as a Greyhound bus driver.
Some of his many interests included listening to traditional country music, playing guitar and NASCAR racing. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and the serenity of the Maine woods.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed and cared deeply for his loved ones.
With his witty, dry sense of humor, he kept everyone laughing, even during his last days. He was a great father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor, and friend who was loved dearly.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley, sister, Elaine Maxine Crooker, Alden Webster, and Robert Alfred.
Surviving are his children, Paula Correia and husband Robert Correia of Ashburnham, Mass., Shelly Harrison and husband Richard Harrison of Freeport, and Shawn Bennett and fiancee Carlene Harvey of Pownal; five grandchildren, Tara and Gregory Correia, Jairet and Chanler Harrison, and Chelsey Harvey; and two brothers, William Edward and Leslie Alvin.
At his request, there will be no funeral services.
