Letter: Send Foster to Augusta

A mailer promoting the candidacy of Anne Graham in House District 109 raised a question in my mind as to its accuracy. One statement that has me questioning her accuracy is the mention that she has been active with the American Legion. As commander of the American Legion Anderson-Mayberry Post No. 91 in Yarmouth for the past 2 1/2 years and serving as the post adjutant for five years before that, I know of no instance where Graham has worked with Post 91. She did, on one occasion, speak on behalf of the Board of Selectmen at a ceremony in North Yarmouth to dedicate a memorial bench donated by the Cole Land Transportation Museum and arranged and set by Post 91.

If this is the occasion she is referring to as having “worked with the American Legion,” I would call it a stretch at best and a weak attempt to imply support of, and an association with, the veterans of our nation. Perhaps she is trying to counter her opponent’s gratitude for our veterans, as he has expressed each year since he was a member of the Gray Town Council in his Veterans Day address honoring their service and sacrifice.

It is time for Mainers to send representatives to Augusta who have a real concern for the direction our state is going instead of more who want to win election to enhance their ego. I urge the voters of House District 109 to cast their ballot for Gary Foster.
