On track in Freeport

A second shipment of 1,650-foot rails arrived by train last week for the replacement of track between Yarmouth and Brunswick in advance of the extension of Amtrak Downeaster service from Portland. Here the train carrying the rails crosses Bow Street in Freeport.

At each intersection the rails were cut by torch and reconnected later.

Even steel can resemble putty as the rails are placed along the railbed beside the existing track.
