Falmouth council candidates to participate in public forum
FALMOUTH — The four candidates for two Town Council seats will face off next week in a question-and-answer forum sponsored by The Forecaster.
Incumbent Councilors Will Armitage and Joe Wrobleski and challengers Fred Chase and Mark Soule will answer questions submitted online by the public and from a moderator, attorney Andrew Sparks.
Sparks, who introduced a "lightning round" to the format in a candidates forum last year, said he might have a new idea or two to keep next week's event fresh and the candidates alert.
"I enjoyed it last year and am looking forward to moderating it again," Sparks said. "I find it an interesting format, unlike most debates where answers are long and details are short."
Readers of The Forecaster are also invited to ask what's on their minds by submitting questions for the candidates in the comment section at the end of this story.
The event will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, June 1, in the Town Council chambers at Town Hall. It will be broadcast live on public access television.
Rebroadcasts of the program will air nightly at 7 p.m. from Wednesday, June 3, through Monday, June 8. On Tuesday, June 2, the forum will be rebroadcast at 4:30 p.m., according to Mike McDade, manager of Falmouth Community Television Channel 2.
For those without cable TV, the event can be watched as a live stream on the town's Web site, town.falmouth.me.us, McDade said.
The municipal election is Tuesday, June 9, with voting at the Falmouth High School gymnasium from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Absentee ballots are available at the town clerk's office at Town Hall.
In addition to the council election, voters will choose two School Board members; the candidates in the uncontested election are Andrew Kinley and Rachel Reed.
Residents will also vote on the proposed $24.9 million fiscal 2010 school budget, which is down about $184,000, or 0.73 percent, from this year's school spending.
