Cumberland man dies in ATV crash

CUMBERLAND — A 19-year-old Mill Road resident died Monday after being injured in an ATV crash.

Jesse P. Zacks was driving along Pleasant Valley Road at about 5 p.m. when he was thrown over the front of the vehicle, Police Chief Joseph Charron said Tuesday. The all-terrain vehicle landed on Zacks.

Nearby residents pulled the vehicle off and called for emergency assistance. Zacks was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland via LifeFlight helicopter, but was pronounced dead at the hospital, Charron said.

The chief said it is unknown whether Zacks, who was not wearing a helmet, had been riding for a while on the road or was connecting via that road from one trail to another.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department is handling reconstruction of the accident, Charron said.
