RSU 5 to host community forum
FREEPORT — Using recently acquired grant funding, Regional School Unit 5 will begin to develop a strategic plan to help strengthen the district's academic, innovation and financial efficiencies.
The planning process will begin Monday, Sept. 14, at the Freeport Performing Arts Center from 6-9 p.m. Former Gov. Angus King will speak about 21st century needs for students; Duke Albanese, former Maine education commissioner, and David Ruff, education reformer and Freeport High School graduate, will lead the project.
After the presentations, the audience will break into smaller groups to discuss characteristics of a prepared elementary, middle and high school graduate and to set three-year targets within academics, innovation and financial efficiencies.
The RSU board will use the information from the community forum to create a three-year district strategic plan and performance targets, and annual indicators to measure the progress and targets.
By the end of October there will be another community forum for the board to hear additional public feedback.
