Crash closes I-295 in Freeport

FREEPORT — Maine State Police are investigating a single-car accident that forced them to close the southbound lanes of Interstate 295 for about an hour Tuesday night.

According to Trooper Marvin Hinkley, three people were in the 1995 Ford Taurus that went off the side of the highway near Mile 25 at 9:25 p.m. The car went into a ditch and came out, travelled across both lanes and into the median guardrail.

The driver was 20-year-old Josie Kimball of Westbrook. Devon Eggen, 19, of Portland, and Tylon Myers, 33, of Westbrook were passengers.

The vehicle was totaled, and Hinkley said Kimball had to be extracted from the vehicle. There were no life-threatening injuries, he said, and Myers refused treatment.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was involved, and an eyewitness report that the car was going 100 mph. There were no charges as of Wednesday morning, June 16.
