United Way hopes to meet increased need with $1.9 million fundraising campaign
BRUNSWICK — The United Way of Mid Coast Maine kicked off its annual fundraising campaign Sept. 3 at a rally at the Brunswick Mall.
This year's goal is $1.9 million. To get there, organizers have embraced the theme "Live United," which includes celebrating local heroes, friends and neighbors from around the region who give, advocate or volunteer on behalf of others.
The campaign also features a $30,000 leadership giving match. All gifts of $500 or more and increases in current leadership gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $30,000. Last year, a similar match of $25,000 helped generate more than $100,000.
New and increased leadership workplace givers are also eligible for one of three $500 heating oil gift cards from Downeast Energy. New donors are eligible for one of five $100 gift cards from Shaw's and Hannaford.
The United Way is also encouraging local workplaces to hold a United Way meeting with employees to hear about local services and make decisions about whether to contribute. To schedule a meeting, call 443-9752.
"United Way's mission is to improve people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities," said Bob McCue of Mid Coast Health Services, chairman of the United Way board of directors. "The donations we raise this fall are critical to getting needed help to local people in the coming year. This is not an ordinary year. Many of our wonderful 39 partner agencies are seeing increased demand, and as a community, we need to make it possible for them to meet the demand."
Donations can be sent to United Way of Mid Coast Maine, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, ME 04530.
