Yarmouth firm to conduct search for Topsham manager

TOPSHAM — The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Sept. 16 to hire a Yarmouth company to aid in the search for a new town manager.

Selectman Don Russell said the town sent requests for proposals to five firms and heard back from three. The Maine Municipal Association submitted a bid of $4,900, and Eaton Peabody Consulting Group requested $5,000 for its services, plus expenses.

Yarmouth-based Human Resources/Labor Relations Consulting Services submitted the low bid of $4,500. Russell said the scope of the work the three firms offered was similar.

Town Manager Jim Ashe told selectmen in August that he planned to step down. The board extended Ashe’s contract from the end of October through December to provide time to find his replacement.

Ashe was hired in November 2007, after 13 years as superintendent of Brunswick schools. He replaced Gary Brown, now Brunswick’s town manager.
