So far, so good for Mid-Coast winter sports teams
The 2009-10 winter sports season has only just begun, but it has left a lot of smiles in its wake thus far.
The Brunswick boys' basketball team is off to a 3-0 start. The Dragons have enjoyed victories over Oxford Hills (45-28), Mt. Ararat (56-41) and Edward Little (55-54).
Brunswick hoped to make it four in a row when it hosted Morse Tuesday. After going to Lewiston Thursday, the Dragons visit Messalonskee on Saturday, then close the 2009 portion of their schedule Tuesday at home against Lawrence.
Mt. Ararat is 2-1 so far, beating Morse (57-39) and Cony (37-29), while losing 56-41 at Brunswick. In the win over the Rams, the Eagles forced 25 turnovers.
Mt. Ararat was at Oxford Hills Tuesday, visits Hampden Saturday and plays host to Bangor Tuesday.
Morse is 1-2 to date. The Shipbuilders lost 57-39 at Mt. Ararat and 69-34 to visiting Oxford Hills before getting in the win column with a 42-37 triumph at Lewiston.
Morse was at Brunswick Tuesday and hosted Cony Thursday. The Shipbuilders go to Lawrence Saturday and play at Mt. Blue Tuesday of next week.
On the girls' side, Morse is off to a 3-0 start. The Shipbuilders downed Mt. Ararat (57-47), Oxford Hills (62-60) and Lewiston (55-30).

Brunswick is 2-1. The Dragons opened with wins over Oxford Hills (38-26) and Mt. Ararat (46-28) before falling 58-41 to visiting Edward Little.
Brunswick was at Morse Tuesday, hosted Lewiston Thursday, visits Messalonskee Saturday and closes 2009 with a home game against Lawrence Tuesday of next week.
Mt. Ararat is seeking its initial victory after dropping games to Morse (57-47), Brunswick (46-28) and Cony (64-46).
The Eagles hosted Oxford Hills Tuesday, welcome Hampden Saturday and Bangor next Tuesday.
On the ice, Brunswick's boys dispatched their first three foes: Mt. Ararat (10-0), Gray-New Gloucester/Poland (6-2) and Cony (7-4). Friday brings the Dragons biggest test to date when they play host to perennial Western A power Biddeford.
The loss to Brunswick was Mt. Ararat's only game so far. The Eagles were home with Hall-Dale Thursday and go to Cony Saturday.
On the girls' side, Brunswick is 2-5. The Dragons wins came against Yarmouth (4-2) and Gorham (2-1). Brunswick was home with Winslow Thursday, plays at Deering Saturday and returns home Monday to face Leavitt.
Early season swimming and wrestling results weren't available at press time.
Track and skiing begin in earnest the first of the year.
