Dorothy E. Schmidt, 71
BRUNSWICK — Dorothy E. Schmidt, 71, died Aug. 13 at a local hospital with family at her side.
On July 15, 1938, she was born in Freeport, a daughter of Ernest and Marion Jordan Washburn, and attended Brunswick schools.
In 1958, she married Henry P. Schmidt in Bath.
At age 15, she starting working at the Candy Kettle on Maine Street, and later worked as a waitress for local restaurants. For nearly 30 years, she owned and operated Dot's Good Deals in Woolwich, formerly of Brunswick.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 132 and the East Brunswick Baptist Church.
She had a loving heart for anyone in need, a wonderful sense of humor and loved to roller-skate.
Her husband Henry predeceased her on Aug. 6, 1999.
Surviving are five children, Henry P. Schmidt Jr., and his fiancee Karen Wellman of Topsham, Paul H. Schmidt and his wife Vivian Delacruz of Martinez, Calif., Dorothy E. Birchfield and her fiance Joe Rubenstein of Topsham, Emmie D. Poseno and her husband Tom of Brunswick, and Emily D. Freeman of Brunswick; two sisters, Judy Hamlin and her husband Michael of Wiscasset and Jean Tate and her husband Bob of Bath, and two brothers, Clifford Washburn of Vasselboro, and Richard Washburn of Brunswick; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
