Joseph F. Ramos, 86
HARPSWELL — Joseph Francis Ramos, 86, died Feb. 25 at his home.
He was born in Hyde Park, Mass., June 25, 1922, a son of John Sousa and Julianna (Kessler) Ramos.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Northeastern University, and later received a master's degree in education.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He married Janet Humphreys on June 29, 1952.
From 1953 to 1967, he worked a variety of jobs in engineering and electronics in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
In 1967, he became director of vocational education and was responsible for the development of the Regional Vocational High School in Lewiston.
He was also an instructor at Lewiston Vocational Technical High School and served as coach of girls field hockey and swimming at Lewiston High School.
His hobbies included sailing, skiing, horseback riding and debating.
He was predeceased by his wife Janet on Nov. 5, 2008; brothers, Amelai Ramos, Bartholomew Ramos, and John Ramos, and sisters, Viola Ramos Woessner, Genevieve Ramos Baulkan, and Pearl Ramos.
Surviving him are his children, Jeffrey Phillip Ramos and his wife Vickie of Harpswell, and Juli Ann (Ramos) Ormsby of Danville, Ky.; his brother Walter Ramos and his wife Margaret, of Naples, Fla; and grandchildren, Jessica Ormsby, Jeremy Flint, Brian Flint, Amanda Flint, Jenna Ramos, Jeffrey Ramos, and Joshua Ormsby.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
