Richard E. MacDonald, 77
BATH — Richard Earl MacDonald, 77, died Aug. 25 at Winship Green Nursing Center.
Born in Bath on Nov. 18, 1931, he was the son of Francis G. and Edna C. MacDonald.
In 1950 he graduated from Morse High School.
From 1952 to 1954, he served in the U.S. Army and later attended the Maine Vocational Institute in South Portland to become a master electrician.
Throughout his career, he worked at Electric Boat, Bath Iron Works, Nissen's Bakery and Jackson's Electric.
He was a life-long resident of Bath and a life member of the American Legion Smith Tobey Post 21.
His passion was reading, especially about history or books about Maine.
He is predeceased by his brother Edward, half-brother Marshall and half-sister Phyllis Cox.
Surviving are his brother Paul of Florida; many nieces and nephews; four step-children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a graveside service with military honors at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. A reception will follow at the Pine Tree State Arboretum, 153 Hospital St., Augusta.
Memorial donations may be made to any local chapter of an Alcoholics Anonymous group or to the American Legion Smith Tobey Post 21 Scholarship Fund, 10 Congress St., Bath, ME 04530 or to a charity of choice.
