Paul B. Johnson, 92
BRUNSWICK — Paul B. Johnson, 92, formerly of College Point, N.Y., died April 11.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1918, in Niles, Ohio, the third child of Carl and Pearl Johnson.
He attended Muskingum College at New Concord, Ohio, on an athletic scholarship where he met his future wife, Grace Jones.
A life-long athlete, he played football, basketball and baseball in high school, college, and for a semi-professional baseball league before taking a job in New York.
He worked in manufacturing before serving in the Army during World War II. In 1953 he began working for Davis Aircraft Products as a designer and sales engineer, and retired in 2000 at the age of 80 after 47 years.
For 61 years he was an active member of the First Reformed Church of College Point, N.Y., serving many years as a deacon, elder, treasurer, head usher, youth group leader and a member of various church committees.
He had a lifelong passion for physical fitness and enjoyed golf, playing tennis, rowing, and for many years he walked two to three miles daily.
At the end of 2008 he moved to Brunswick to be near his daughter Judy and was a resident of The Stevens Home.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Grace Emily Jones Johnson, his brother Richard, and sister Mary Jane Zellar.
Surviving are his two daughters, Judith Johnson Klein and her husband Keith of Brunswick, and Susan Johnson Lefever Cote of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his younger brother Stanley R. Johnson of Zanesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will fondly remember his wonderful sense of humor, easy-going nature, adventurous spirit and generous heart.
Visiting hours were held Wednesday. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick.
