Edward V. Bush, 64: Mayflower descendant, avid sailor

HARPSWELL — Edward V. "Ted" Bush, age 64, died while sailing in the Monhegan Race off the Maine coast on Aug. 8.

He was born Aug. 21, 1944, in Boston, the son of Catherine and Dr. Richard Bush and attended schools in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

In 1967, he graduated from from Bowdoin College, where he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi and R.O.T.C., and later received his master's degree from Boston College.

He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

On June 26, 1976, he married Cynthia Rzeczkowski in South Dennis, Mass.

He was a hospital administrator for Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Other business ventures included owning ADC Inc., Marine Design, and serving as a small business consultant.

He volunteered at the Harpswell Neck Fire and Rescue, the Bethel Historical Society and served as the president of the Middle Intervale Meeting House in Bethel.

An avid sailor, he enjoyed serving as the Harbor Master of High Head Yacht Club in Harpswell.

His other hobbies included reading, skiing and fishing. Friends called him "the tracker" because of his innate ability to find and implement solutions.

He was a Mayflower descendant with long-existing family ties to Cape Cod and Bethel areas.

He is survived by his wife Cyndy of Harpswell; an uncle, Harry Kuzyk of Bethel; several cousins; and a special friend, Bill W.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 21, at the Elijah Kellogg Church, 917 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell.
