Budget passes 1st test at Bath council
BATH — The City Council gave initial approval Wednesday to a $14.2 million municipal budget for fiscal 2010.
Final passage is expected on Wednesday, June 24.
While next year's budget is smaller than the current $18.2 million budget, Finance Director/Tax Collector Juli Millett said the city landfill incurred large capital expenses this past year that are not reflected in next year's budget.
"We didn't really reduce our budget 22 percent," she said. "It's because of those capital expenditures that we don't have (for fiscal 2010)."
The amount to be raised from taxes in the fiscal 2010 budgets – with Bath municipal, Sagadahoc County and Regional School Unit 1 numbers figured in – is $15.8 million, identical to this year.
"The council had taken some cuts that got us there," Millett said, "the county tax came in below last year which helped get us there, and then the RSU board definitely was diligent and came in below last year."
