BIW gets $19.8M contract for ship work
BATH — The U.S. Navy awarded Bath Iron Works a $19.8 million contract for repair, maintenance and upgrade work on a DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Class destroyer.
The award is a modification to a previously awarded contract for post-shakedown work on the U.S.S. Truxtun (DDG-103). BIW is partnered with BAE Systems to perform the work, which is scheduled to begin in September and wrap up by March 2010, according to the office of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine.
"This funding is welcome news for Bath Iron Works and the skilled workers who will complete this maintenance and repair project," said Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. "BIW workers continue to prove that they are a valuable asset to our national security and I will continue to work with the Navy to help ensure that BIW continues to be awarded such valuable contracts."
