PORTLAND — A closed section of Congress Street between Forest and Weymouth streets is expected to reopen Friday, June 8.

Maine Medical Center spokesman Matt Wickenheiser said the street will reopen about three weeks sooner than expected because work to expand the hospital parking garage went quickly.

The street was closed May 7 to accommodate a crane used to lift prefabricated concrete sections into place as two floors and 225 parking spaces are added to the visitors’ garage.

Wickenheiser said contractors started dismantling the crane June 1 and will then repave the street.
