FALMOUTH — While the Falmouth Education Foundation’s Color Run is being promoted as “just plain fun,” it will also raise money for  academics, athletics and arts programs.

The third annual run will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, on the school campus. Tickets are $30 per person in advance and $40 for same-day registration. There is also a $100 family pack available. The rain date is Sept. 30.

Participants can run, jog or walk the 1.2-mile course or take part in the 2.4-mile family fun run. “Wear your oldest shoes as you take part in an afternoon of athletic activity and pure joy,” the foundation’s website states.

Susie Wrisley, co-president of the Falmouth Education Foundation, said the idea for holding a color run originally came from a former board member. “She felt the community of Falmouth would enjoy (this) upbeat, family-friendly” event.

Participants have the choice of completing the course once or twice and once all the runners have completed the course, “we gather for the color celebration,” Wrisley said. Over the past two years, she said, the race has raised just over $20,000 for the foundation.

As an event organizer, Wrisley hasn’t had the chance to take part in the Color Run herself, but said, “the greatest enjoyment for me is seeing participation from the Falmouth schools staff and the excitement and joy from parents and students ranging from preschool through high school.”

She said the Color Run is “a wonderful way to start the school year as part of the Falmouth school community. The funds raised support and enrich the academic, athletics and arts programs of Falmouth school-aged children. And it’s just plain fun.”

Wrisley said the whole community is invited to take part and “people of all ages are welcome to be part of this fun, colorful afternoon. The money raised supports two grant cycles annually, several large-scale projects, and the continued growth of our long-term endowment.”
