South Portland sculptor Jac Ouellette, of Anviljac Studios, prepares to put the final touches on her latest creation Monday, Dec. 15, on the roof of Coffee By Design on Diamond Street in Portland. The 15-foot-tall, 700-pound coffee mug with coffee beans, a cherry, and a column of steam was commissioned by CBD owner Alan Spear and took a year to design and fabricate. A team of contractors and crane operators spent much of Monday afternoon preparing for the moment when, in the final seconds before sunset, Ouellette helped guide the kinetic sculpture onto its base. Now, thanks to a central pin, the sculpture is free to spin in the wind like a weather vane.
