BRUNSWICK — Claire L. Stockford, 97, of Durham Road, died Sept. 29 at her home.

She was born in Brunswick on Nov. 24, 1916, the daughter of Philoclese and Mathilda Dumais Lacharite. She graduated from St. John’s School and attended Brunswick High School.

On Sept. 27, 1941, she married Charles C. Stockford Sr. in Brunswick. He died June 26, 1989.

Claire Stockford worked at area shoe shops in her early years, and then returned to that work after her children had grown.

She was a member of St. John’s Church of All Saints Parish, and also active with the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by five brothers, Aime, Albert, Bertrand, Henry and Lucien Lacharite, and a sister, Rita Merritts.

She is survived by four sons, Charles C. Stockford Jr., of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Wayne R. Stockford and Clifford D. Stockford, both of Brunswick, and Donald D. Stockford, of Alexandria, Virginia; a daughter, Judith A. Thibeault, of Bowdoinham; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held Oct. 6 at Brackett Funeral Home, and a funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 7 at St. John’s Church, in Brunswick. Interment was scheduled for Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, in Augusta.

The family wishes to especially thank Stockford’s son, Wayne, for the loving care he provided her in her later years.
