SOUTH PORTLAND — A community forum about the future of the former National Guard Armory will be held Wednesday, June 17, from 7-9 p.m., in the council chambers of City Hall, 25 Cottage Road.

City officials are considering rezoning the armory and about 2.5 acres of land, purchased in bankruptcy court for $650,000 in 2006, to allow a Cape Elizabeth resident with movie industry experience to build and operate a sound stage for films and commercials.

A committee that studied options for the building did not recommend rezoning the property and suggested converting the 1940s-era brick building into a consolidated City Hall that would also house school administrators. A sound stage was not considered.
