Local skiers made their mark on the slopes and trails at venues across the state last week during championship meets.
In Class A, the Cheverus girls came in sixth in Alpine, while the boys didn’t score as a team.
In the giant slalom, Emily Machesney came in fourth (with a time of 1 minute, 38.5 seconds). Margaret Corrigan (seventh, 1:39.2), Katherine Drake (27th, 1:48.5) and Catherine Walsh (50th, 1:57.8) also scored.
In the slalom, Cheverus came in sixth with 118 points. Corrigan was the individual champion, with a time of 1:10.20. Machesney came in eighth (1:15.3). Walsh came in 55th (1:43.72) and Casey Sutton placed 56th (1:45.03).
The Cheverus boys had 212 points and were 11th in the giant slalom. Ryan Hoffman (38th, 1:52.0) was the top finisher.
The Stags didn’t score as a team in the slalom. Spencer Reynolds was the top individual (44th, 1:23.97).
In Nordic action, the Portland girls placed seventh, while the boys came in eighth. Deering didn’t score.
In the freestyle boys’ race, the Rams were eighth (167 points) and the Bulldogs ninth (172). Tim Weber was the fastest Portland skier, coming in 26th in 15:37.8. Jakob Chandler led Deering (29th, 16:16.5).
On the girls’ side, the Bulldogs were seventh with 175 points. Abby Popenoe had an 18th-place individual finish (18:01.7).
In the classic, Portland’s boys had 175 points, good for seventh. Weber was 32nd (18:50.8). Chandler came in 38th (19:59.4).
Chandler finished third in the Class A skimeister competition, coming in 13th in the giant slalom and 56th in the slalom, in addition to his Nordic showing.
For the girls, the Bulldogs came in seventh with 128. Popenoe was 22nd (21:29.2).
In Class C Nordic competition, Waynflete came in fifth on the boys’ side and sixth in girls’ competition.
The boys were led by standout Nate Niles, who won the classic (17:45.98) and came in second in the freestyle (15:45.88).
For the girls, in the freestyle, Chloe Rowse (13th, 22:04.3) and Hilary Niles (14th, 22:24.24) were the top individuals. In the classic, Niles moved up to 10th (25:49.83).
