PORTLAND — Maine State Police on June 10 honored three people for helping troopers and the public, according to a press release from Maine Department of Public Safety.

Special Awards of Commendation were presented to city residents Loren and Olivia Joyce, who helped rescue a baby stuck in a car after a one-car accident on the Maine Turnpike.

Mercy Hospital nurse Leon Chick was recognized with a Special Award of Commendation for assisting Trooper Doug Cropper after a driver had a heroin overdose on Interstate 295.

The commendations were presented during ceremonies at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.
