Forty-five new American citizens from 21 countries and a variety of backgrounds are sworn in during a naturalization ceremony on Friday, May 3, at Portland High School. Tim Wilson, senior international advisor and director at Seeds of Peace addressed the group, touching on historical U.S. immigration and the future. “I’m a descendant of someone who was brought here, he did not ask to come here, he was an Ashanti,” Wilson said, referring to his ancestors who were brought to America from west Africa as slaves. “For you, you come here with a legacy and now you start a new one.”
