PORTLAND — State Rep. Ben Chipman won the Democratic primary Tuesday for the Maine Senate District 27 seat Tuesday, defeating Dr. Charles Radis and Rep. Diane Russell in a 1,778 to 797 to 770 vote, respectively.

Chipman will now face Republican Mark Lockman and Green Independent Seth Baker in the Nov. 8 general election. Lockman and Green were unopposed in their primary elections.

Senate District 27 is now represented by Democratic Sen. Justin Alfond, who could not seek a fifth consecutive term because of state law.

Senate District 27 comprises the city’s peninsula, Casco Bay islands and extends west along Forest and Allen avenues.
