President William R. Campbell, S.J. (left), and Principal John H.R. Mullen did the honors as the Southwestern Maine Activities Association awarded its 2009 Sportsmanship Award to Cheverus High School. As part of the yearly SMAA Sportsmanship Summit, the student athletes in attendance from the Association’s 17 member schools vote for the award. Students are asked to select up to five schools whose student-athletes, coaches and spectators most closely exemplify the qualities of the league’s sportsmanship mission statement. As a result of the voting, Cheverus High School received this year’s award. This is the 12th year the SMAA has awarded this honor to its member schools.
