PORTLAND — The city will celebrate its cherry blossoms in bloom with a “Cherry Fest” at City Hall Plaza at 11:45 a.m. Friday, April 22.

City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said Mayor Ethan Strimling, City Manager Jon Jennings and other city officials will join members of the Friends of Shinagawa for the celebration.

Shinegawa, Japan, is a sister city of Portland. The celebration will include the planting of a new cherry tree and coincide with Earth Day. Japanese musicians, a Taiko drumming performance by Portland-based Taiko Maine Dojo, and the Mami food truck will also be part of the event.
