BOWDOINHAM — Charlote R. Billings, 98, died Dec. 8 at Freeport Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Laconia, N.H. on Nov. 13, 1913, she was the daughter of Charles Nicklin and Maude Ella Harris Blodgett. In 1916, her family moved to Broad Acres Farm in Bowdoinham. She graduated from Coombs High School in 1931 and from Bay Path Institute in Springfield, Mass. in 1933.

On June 25, 1938 she married Freeman P. Billings.

Billings worked as a secretary at L.L. Clark Lumber Co. in Clarks Mills, and at Merrymeeting Farm in Bowdoinham. From 1954 to 1966, she worked for E. Andrew Peterson & Co. in Bodwoinham, and from 1967 to 1971 for G.H. Bass & Co. also in Bowdoinham. She retired from Brunswick Coal & Lumber Co. after working there for seven years in 1979. Though she was retired, she returned to work part time for many years.

She was a Past Matron of Electa Chapter No. 2, O.E.S. of Bowdoinham, a member of the Comfort Branch of the Sunshine Society, the Bowdoinham Extension, a former member of the Merrymeeting Grange, and a member of the Mid Coast Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She also did volunteer work in the hospital coffee shop for many years.

Her husband passed away on Aug. 24, 1987. She was also predeceased by her son, Kenneth; brothers Raymond Blodgett and Charles Blodgett; and nephew Paul Blodgett.

Billings is survived by her son, Linwood Stephen and his wife Susan of Brunswick; grandchildren Michael Scott Billings and Holly Ann Billings; three great grandchildren, Joseph Billings, Elsa Billings, and Andrea Billings; three nephews Lance Blodgett, Raymond Blodgett and his wife Emily, and Arthur Bouley and his wife Bessie; and niece Joyce Morin and her husband Roland.

Visitation was held on Dec. 12 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick followed by an Eastern Star service and a funeral service officiated by Rev. Ron McLaughlin. Burial will take place at Bay View Cemetery in the spring.
