BRUNSWICK — Charles L. Merrill Jr., 80, died Jan. 14.
On June 9, 1929, he was born in Boston, son of Charles L. and Hazel Harvey Merrill and attended local schools.
After graduating from the Kents Hill School in Maine in 1950, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
On June 3, 1951, he married Elizabeth I. Rand in Lewiston and they were married for 57 years until her death on Jan. 29, 2009.
For more than 25 years he owned Merrill’s Carpet in Brunswick before taking a job as vice president of supplies for NRF Distributors in Augusta from 1995-2006.
His hobbies were woodworking, playing tennis and golf.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher L. Merrill of Topsham, Andrew C. Merrill of Brunswick and a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Merrill Lonsdale and her husband Thomas of Forked River, N.J.; a sister, Patricia M. Dunn of Kennebunk; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Kimberly, Julia, Samantha.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday Feb. 2 at the First Parish Church, Maine Street, Brunswick.
